SBTi Near-Term Target Calculator

Build a science-based near-term target with the Absolute Contraction Approach (ACA): target = baseline × (1 − rate)years. Tests Scope 3 materiality, validates the 1.5°C reduction floor, and projects a year-by-year trajectory.

Inputs

tCO₂e — direct
tCO₂e — purchased energy
tCO₂e — value chain

Results

Scope 1+2 target emissions

Year-by-year trajectory

Year Scope 1+2 (tCO₂e) S1+2 cut Scope 3 (tCO₂e) S3 cut
Why the rate compounds: A 4.2% annual cut does not mean 42% over 10 years. Because each year's reduction applies to a shrinking baseline, (1 − 0.042)10 = 0.651 — a cumulative 34.9% cut. Under SBTi Corporate Near-Term criteria a Scope 3 target is required when Scope 3 is ≥ 40% of total baseline emissions, and must cover ≥ 67% of the screened Scope 3 total.
