Why this matters:
A CHP plant turns one fuel input into two useful outputs, so its emissions must be shared between them. The efficiency method allocates by what each output would have emitted if produced separately (reference efficiencies ηe=0.35, ηh=0.80). The operator reports the total as Scope 1; a third party that buys the exported electricity or heat reports its allocated share as Scope 2 — which is why CHP spans both scopes.
