Why this matters:
Stationary combustion is typically the largest Scope 1 source for
manufacturing, logistics, and commercial real estate. Under the
GHG Protocol Corporate Standard, all fuel burned in
equipment you own or control must be reported as Scope 1 regardless
of fuel type. Switching from coal to natural gas reduces emissions
per kWh by approximately 50%; switching to grid electricity moves
the emission to Scope 2 and enables renewable energy matching.
